Community Service Center
OF GREATER CLEVELAND
This space has been donated to the Center by the Chronicle. The following does not necessarily reflect the views of the Chronicle staff or management.
by Robert Laycock
Men In Touch. The next Men in Touch group is starting in July. Men In Touch is a group on gay male identity which explores intimacy, sexuality and communication. More than 30 men have participated so far in this program.
Men In Touch meets in a closed group for six weeks starting July 20. An open meeting will be held for those interested July 13. For more information, call the Center.
HIV Support Group. The Living Room is starting a support group for people who have newly tested positive for HIV. Call the Center for information on day and time.
Massage therapy for men and women in the HIV spectrum is starting soon at the Living Room. Call the Center for
more information.
In other news on the Living Room, a generous gift of games and puzzles has been received. We thank the donor very much! Also, with summer here, the Living Room needs ceiling fans and an air conditioner-very badly! If you can help, please call the Center.
Gay & Lesbian Violence. Anyone can be a victim of sexual assault or violence, regardless of race, religion, ethicality, gender, class, age, ability or sexual orientation. The Center now has four new pamphlets on battery and violence within the lesbian and gay community. Men and women dealing with violence in their relationships will be interested in these pamphlets, which are located on the Center's literature rack.
The four pamphlets are:
Sexual Assault of Lesbians ⚫ Male Sexual Assault
Battering & Abuse in Lesbian Relationships
Battering & Abuse in Relationships: Information for Gay Men
Aubrey Wertheim, director of services at the Center, has been hired part time by the Cleveland Department of Health. Don't worry, though, he's not leaving us! The city has placed Wertheim at the Center, actually making him.full time...
Art McDonald Meeting Room. Use of the Art McDonald meeting room is a valuable service the Center offered to many different groups in our community. Tables, chairs, sink, counter and pantry space are available and the rent is just right: $1 per person per meeting. Maximum capacity is 60.
If you would like to meet at the Center, call Aubrey at 522-1999.
Meetings currently held in the Art McDonald room include CoDA, a group on co-dependency. A metaphysical growth and support group to empower gay men for personal and social transformation is starting in July.
Just a Stage. Show tune sing-a-longs are ready to start at the Center July 8 at 8 p.m. This one's for everyone who loves show tunes. We provide the lyrics. Come join us. It'll be great fun from overture to curtain!
Hot line Training. Hot line training for new volunteers begins again July 11. Training will run Tuesdays and Thursdays July 11-25, beginning at 7 p.m.
Your help is needed on the hot line for just four hours per week. Call the Center for more information and to sign up.
Center House Parties. Fund-raising House Parties for the Center are continuing through July and August. It's a great way to have fun and raise needed funds to support the Center. Get your friends together, show off your cooking and entertaining skills, and we'll come with an entertaining pitch to solicit community support. Call Aubrey at the Center for more data.
